President’s Message

I hope everyone is out enjoying the start of the 2021 Summer. I’ve been plenty busy keeping up with WDFW’s rule changes and closures.

Our club picnic will be on August 7th at Otto Jarstad Park 4230 W Belfair Valley Rd, Bremerton, 98312. We have the park reserved from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Put this date on your calendar. Along with the picnic, we will hold a brief general meeting and have what promises to be a great raffle. The picnic will be a potluck venue with BSC providing hot dogs, burgers, and refreshments. I hope to see everyone at the picnic, and please bring a friend. If possible, please let us know if you plan on attending.

As mentioned in the last newsletter, the BSC’s internet website is up and running and can be viewed at https://bremertonsportsmensclub.org. I’ve been monitoring the site periodically. We have signed up a couple of members through the site, which means the pay by credit card is working. I’m continuing work on my WordPress (WP) skill set, allowing us to post updates and information related to our club business and membership. The club still needs a couple of volunteers who are willing to help us with website updates. If someone is willing and wanting to help, give me a call at 360-328-4954 (C) or email me at rflerx@wavecable.com (private email) or getoutdoors@bremertonsportsmensclub.org.

Columbia River: Washington State 2021 legislative session came to a close in late April. The Columbia River non-tribal gill netting in the main stem continues to be pushed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Commission and WDFW Director Kelly Susewind. I’ve asked Cheyanne to insert the article printed by our friends at CCA Washington, which explains with a summary of this gillnet issue.

Point No Point: The Army Corps has denied WDFW’s permit application. Hunting Season Approaching – It’s time to start your preparations for deer and elk hunting. Break out the sleeping bag, camp cook gear, boots, etc. Get out and physically/visually inspect the areas you plan to hunt.

BSC Meeting Schedule

  • August 7th – Brief meeting and then the picnic
  • September 28th – General Meeting with Pot Luck. This meeting will be held at our regular meeting place at Bremerton Trap and Skeet Club on HWY 3
  • October -2021 No meeting
  • November 23rd – General Meeting with Thanksgiving Pot Luck.
  • December 28th – General Meeting – TBD

In closing, I hope to see everyone at the picnic; until then, get outdoors, have fun and be safe.

Best Regards,
Ron Flerx – President BSC
